To infinity and beyond! The latest issue of Blanket magazine is out! This issue is the Cosmos issue and yours truly was part of an ‘astrology psychology’ artist project. 12 artists created a piece of art related to their star sign and kept track of their creative process along the way. The findings were compared with a short synopsis of their star sign’s characteristics – and the results are rather interesting! I was quite suprised at how well mine match really. I’m Cancer to a T.
Here is the piece I did for the feature. The 12 artworks are available as printable cards which you can buy, or are free with Blanket subscriptions, which is actually pretty cheap as it’s a great magazine on emerging art, design and photography. I really dig it. You also get a free featured font with each issue. It’s a bargain for $2 each, or $12 a yearly subscription. Plus you get to read my lovely interview and a high-res printable card of my artwork, what’s not to love?
For those of you who don’t know or haven’t been, Semi Permanent is an annual design event extravaganza, which tours Australia, New Zealand and various cities around the world as it celebrates all things design – graphic design, film, art, illustration, photography, animation, graffiti, you name it, they’ve probably done it. The speakers are world class – Industrial Light & Magic, Pixar, Jasper Goodall, Banksy, Deanne Cheuk, Vince Frost, Alex Trochut, plus a who’s who of top Aussie creatives too. There are side events, parties and one very cool thing I look forward to each year, the Book. Twice a year now, the SP peeps put out a book of most excellent design/art from terrific creatives from around the world. This year, I received word that one of my illustrations was selected for the 2nd edition, which is really a great kudos. It should be released in August coinciding with the Melbourne SP event, so keep your eyes out for the book. Here’s the illustration which was chosen:
Now usually, I am a self-absorbed blog poster who ONLY likes to talk about himself and what he is doing. I know. Someone’s gotta do it. But I am so excited about this I have to share it – pretty much my favourite band in the world has released a little snippet of 2 new songs titled ‘The Suburbs’ and ‘Month of May’. Sure, they’re only snippets, but people like me feed and obsess off this kind of thing for MONTHS. And, what with the whole Medium: Vinyl show I’m in as of tonight, this seems quite apt. See how I made that all about me? Self-absorbed. Yup.
N.B The snippets are now full-length previews. Thanks A.F! You can also preorder the album.
