Now usually, I am a self-absorbed blog poster who ONLY likes to talk about himself and what he is doing. I know. Someone’s gotta do it. But I am so excited about this I have to share it – pretty much my favourite band in the world has released a little snippet of 2 new songs titled ‘The Suburbs’ and ‘Month of May’. Sure, they’re only snippets, but people like me feed and obsess off this kind of thing for MONTHS. And, what with the whole Medium: Vinyl show I’m in as of tonight, this seems quite apt. See how I made that all about me? Self-absorbed. Yup.
N.B The snippets are now full-length previews. Thanks A.F! You can also preorder the album.
Here’s a recent interview I did for the magazine Groupie, which is a digital music magazine and a rather good one at that. (They also do a fashion magazine called Pages – both are free to subscribe and very cool.)
I talked to Groupie about the relationship between music and art and my creative process, in particular, with regards to my involvement in the Dappled Cities’ art exhibition on soon at Mart Gallery. They are showing a selection of art which accompanied the band’s launch last year for their album Zounds, which got nominated for ARIAs and deservedly so. I was one of 12 artists who each interpreted a song from the album in an installation – and parts of mine will be on display from 1st-4th June at Mart Gallery (156 Commonwealth Rd, Surry Hills). There will be a giant colouring in!
Is a rather ambitious group art show opening this Friday evening at Hardware Gallery in Sydney. 150 vinyls, close to 150 artists, it is going to be a bit of a party! I painted on 3 vinyls for the show, and from what I’ve seen so far, the show is going to be pretty fun and spectacular. I take my hat off to Lew at Hardware Gallery simply for tackling the logistics of dealing with a show of such a big scale!
There is also a People’s Choice prize for the show, so please, get along, and vote on your favourite works (hopefully on one of mine) and the lucky artist could win a cool prize! The fun kicks off at 6pm. Hardware Gallery is at 263 Enmore Rd, Enmore. Go HERE for more info. The show will run from May 21st to June 12th. Yes, there will be booze. But get there early!
